FOOD CULTURE DIVERSITY

Why is it necessary to consume a diverse range of foods from various cultures? We examine the definitions of diversity and how it affects individuals, communities, and the environment.

Cultural diversity refers to the consideration and representation of all experiences, regardless of social, political, gender, class, or race.

Food and culture are inextricably linked. The steps involved in preparing, serving, and sharing such foods and beverages may seem straightforward, but they also have significant social and cultural implications. Recipes and eating habits can be used to pass down wisdom from generation to generation.

Certain foods, when prepared and consumed as part of a celebration, may strengthen social ties. Getting to know the local food scene and participating in culinary traditions is one of the best ways for travelers to broaden their exposure and enrich their experience.

"Food is not just a quantity of proteins or vitamins; it is a variety of foods that forms the foundation of our various civilizations," Graziano da Silva said.

However, he cautioned that this diversity is in jeopardy. Currently, only a few foods account for 80% of our diet, such as wheat, rice, corn, and soybeans, despite the fact that humans have used over 7,000 items throughout history.

"these are the foundations of our various diets and cultures."
